Dolce & Gabbana
Stefano Gabbana was born in November 1962, in Venice, Italy. Domencio Dolce was born on September 1958, in Sicily. Dolce studied fashion design in and gained experience in his parents businesses. Gabbana studied graphic design and gained experience as an assistant in an atelier in Milan, where the pair first met in 1980. In 1985 the duo unveiled their debut collection in a fashion show to discover new talent, winning them acclaim. Muses for the home made collection included Italian actresses Sophia Loren and Anna Magnani.
Dolce & Gabbana later signed an agreement with the Kashiyama group and in 1989, opened their first boutique in Japan. Two years later they were presenting their first menswear collection, followed up with a childrenswear, fragrance and eyewear collection. The bestselling Dolce & Gabbana eyewear range is an ideal way of injecting the laid back luxury of the brand into your wardrobe. Frame colours range from naturals to brighter shades, and floral patterns destined to become must-have designed for the female wardrobe. Classic black and tortoiseshell are also included within the collection.
Clearly having best friends Madonna, Kylie Minogue and Naomi Campbell wearing your designs is not going to hurt your stance as a fashion designer either, but still, there is no denying Dolce & Gabbana have extensive fashion knowledge. Other celebrity fans of Dolce & Gabbana include Charlize Theron and Isabella Rossellino who famously once said ‘The first piece of theirs I wore was a white shirt, very chaste, but cut to make my breasts look as if they were bursting out of it’.
By 1997 Dolce & Gabbana achieved a reported a turnover of £400 million, prompting both designers to announce that they planned to retire by the age of 40 - a promise they thankfully did not keep. They have now become one of the most successful ready-to-wear companies in the world and are considered as the number one choice of designer in Hollywood. |
